On the afternoon of November 23, 2023, Professor TIAN Xiaoli from Nanchang University was invited to visit the College of Bioscience and Bioengineering of JXAU and delivered an academic report titled "Genetic Mechanism of Centenarians Escaping from Coronary Heart Disease". The report was presided over by WU Xiaoyu, College Secretary of the Committee of CPC.
During the report, Professor TIAN presented findings from the aging research conducted with big data collected from centenarians. It was found that the proportion of female centenarians over 101 years old is higher than that of male counterparts, which means that women have a generally longer life expectancy than men. In addition, the whole genome sequencing data and associated data of centenarians were analyzed, to study the loci, genes and their functions related to either coronary heart disease or, in the contrast, longevity. It was proposed that hunger, immune and environmental factors may affect life expectancy. Meanwhile, it was found that energy control was also crucial for determining the lifespan.
